PINES OF SARASOTA

Pines of Sarasota, situated in Sarasota, Florida, stands as one of the senior living communities within the region. At Pines of Sarasota Rehabilitation and Senior Care Community, their vision is to maintain their position as the foremost provider in the realms of rehabilitation, geriatric care, education, and support. This vision has persisted since their inception on November 16, 1948, thanks to the foresight of The Kiwanis Club of Sarasota. Recognizing the necessity for a nursing home catering to Sarasota’s elderly population with limited means and health challenges, they spearheaded fundraising efforts to acquire property and establish the institution.

Following its inauguration, operational responsibilities were transferred to the Sarasota Welfare Home, Inc., a non-profit entity. The Board of Directors, comprising representatives from diverse community organizations, aimed to provide comprehensive support for the institution, which relied and still depends on private donations and grants to supplement resident fees.

The escalating demand for Welfare Home’s services prompted expansions, including the addition of eight rooms just three years after its inauguration, followed by a 26-bed infirmary the subsequent year. Subsequent expansions encompassed a 72-resident assisted living facility, an Alzheimer’s/dementia care unit, and a modern rehabilitation and skilled nursing facility.
