For seniors who need 24-hour care but are looking for a less institutionalized setting, a personal care home might be the answer.
A personal care home is a licensed 24-hour care facility. It provides services like the ones provided in an assisted living facility, but in a much smaller and more affordable home-based setting.
Personal care homes are integrated into the community they are located in so that anyone passing through the neighborhood would not immediately know that the home is a residential senior care facility.
There are fewer residents, generally 3 to 12, and a lower staff to resident ratio, about 1 to 4. Therefore, the level of care can be much greater than in other senior housing communities.
The lower staff to resident care affords residents a closer relationship with care providers and more individualized care
Costs for personal care home services vary depending on where you live. Nationally, base rates range between 1,200 and $5,000 per month.
